About

susan close upThis site is dedicated to courage in raising children. As parents, we are the guardians of their talents, personalities, needs, hopes and dreams. Each child is unique, so it doesn’t make sense that there would only be one right way to parent. Knowing what to do is a matter of tapping into our intuition.

There are slews of traditional parenting magazines which will tell you everything from what to eat for dinner to when to set bedtimes. As the former editor of a local parenting magazine, I was constantly torn between publishing redundant advice submitted by well-meaning “experts” and what I, as a parent, knew to be true.

Parenting is instinctual on many levels. Our bodies innately know how to conceive, give birth, breastfeed, etc. Knowing when to confront a teacher or visit the doctor, for example, is intuitive. Each child is giving us his or her own set of clues, which we must read with our minds and our guts. Somewhere, we lost our way. It’s time we, as parents, regain our expert status.

Thank you for reading. Writing about parenting is my passion. I’ve just been spread thin doing it lately, so I apologize for taking so long to reply. Best, Susan

I enjoyed reading your blog. It’s always great to read a real response to parenting. I found this blog through FB. I am from Art Center.
